Tree of Life

Updated: Jul 19, 2020

"To really feel a forest canopy one must use different senses, and often the most useful one is the sense of imagination.― Joan Maloof

There is nothing more invigorating for me to be surrounded by trees in ancient woodlands. I am a real forest bather, being under nature's canopy fills every one of my senses. The scent of the pines and that unique smell of the fallen leaves that is only found in the forest, especially after rainfall. The sound of leaves crunching underfoot. The beautiful shady canopy on a summers day, (and this is my favourite part) the stunning autumnal displays that we are treated to as the leaves turn and fall.

Ever since I set up Jewellery by Emma Roy I knew I wanted to give something back to our beautiful planet as she inspires me so very much. This is the reason why I have joined forces with One Tree planted.

Taking care of the world we live in means so much to me, I do all I can in my personal life and in my business to have as little impact on the environment as possible.

I use Silver Clay in my designs which is refined silver, recycled from the communication and medical industries. Rather than this silver being disposed of (possibly in landfills, polluting the planet further) the pure silver is filed in to tiny partials and mixed with an organic non toxic binder and water.

Of course it goes without saying that the manufacturing of the clay will have some impact on the environment, nothing at all is truly carbon footprint free (unless you live in a mud hut in the middle of nowhere, and just live off the land

(which does sound awesome!) but even that would have some impact on the surrounding Eco-system!

Just as the manufacturing processes of everything, including all Eco-friendly products such as reusable coffee cups, bamboo toothbrushes, electric cars etc, has an affect on our beautiful planet, so of course does the manufacturing of silver clay. (The very fact that products such as these are either made from recycled materials, can be reused or reduce the plastic and pollution in itself is a good thing for the planet.)

I truly believe that using recycled silver clay is a much more of an earth friendly solution than mining new silver from the land, and all the damages that comes with that. Not to mention the pollution that would come from the disposing of the waste silver if it were not recycled and turned in to silver clay.

That in-turn will be made in to a beautiful piece of jewellery that will be treasured forever.

It is for this reason also that where I possibly can I also use chains and finding that are made from recycled silver.

I use a brand of silver clay called FYI that is manufactured in the EU, (it is not currently manufactured in the UK, if it were I would source it from here) in order to keep the carbon foot print to a minimum. As well as the fact that the EU has very strict policies when it comes to manufacturing and the environment.

I have even thought about the environment when selecting my packaging. My boxes are made from recycled materials ( including the foam inserts) they have been constructed with non toxic glue and are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved, which brings me nicely full circle to trees, as that is actually what I wanted to talk to you about today!

I love trees, yep I am a tree-hugger and make absolutely no apologises for that!

As I mentioned earlier I have recently discovered and joined forces with One Tree Planted.

A wonderful charity that has re-forestation projects all over the globe.

I have been looking to give something back for a while now, and this seemed like the perfect fit for me. I am very proud to be in partnership with such a worthy cause.

For every piece of jewellery sold I will donate a percentage of the profits to One Tree Planted, to have a tree planed in your honour, in the forest of your choice (the full list of reforestation locations is listed on the check out page of my website.)

You will also receive a little E-certificate with your name and location of your tree. I am so excited that together we can help global reforestation, as well as giving something a little special to my wonderful customers. To learn more out more about how it works please click here

Of course you are in no way obliged to buy my jewellery, if you wish you can also just donate to one tree planted as an individual, and you even gift a tree to a loved one if you like. To find out how to gift a tree as well as read more about this tree-mendous charity please visit their website www.onetreeplanted.org

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post, here is a photo with a few more reasons why trees are awesome!

In fact I think I will go and find one right now to hug, as I am pretty sure the social distancing rules don't apply to Flora and Fauna!

Much Love

Emma x
